right to left languages - text alginment

I am getting very frustrated with the following issue:

when translating into Arabic I need the editor to align the target text so it becomes a right to left text.

Its quite astonishing that the programme does not change the text direction to rtl automatically when selecting Arabic as the target language.

In addition to that it seems to there is no method or workaround to change the language direction manually.

I hope there will be a solution soon!

  • Also, if you use the Saudi Arabia variant in Trados Studio (which I've found is the setting most ME translators have their computers set to for Arabic) it has the benefit that Trados Studio also has the Arial font already mapped for Arabic as a target language. This is useful as it handles Arabic nicely and removes the potential you can have with some fonts used in the source document which do not support Arabic completely. If this happens then you'll find that the unsupported Arabic characters are displayed as the Unicode square box symbol when you create the target Arabic version of the document being translated.

However, for all variants of Arabic you can change/add a specific font for use when creating the Arabic Target version via the File Type settings for the MS Office / most of the Adobe / OpenDocument file types. This is done under the Font Mapping option in these File Types.
