I have 8k TUs on a translation memory but term search comes up with TUs with numbers over 11k, how come?

I'm working with a translation memory that has 8851 TUs: 
 
 I opened the TM file in SDL Trados Studio 2021 and scrolled to the end of the last page 
 
 I shows the LAST record as numbered 9403. I could understand that some records might have been deleted, so the last record number is greater than the total number of records. OK. 
 
 BUT when I search for some term, the results come up with record numbers much larger than 9400: 
 
 How come I have record number 11378 in this TM but when I scroll it to the very end, the very last record is number 9403 and the total number of records is only 8851?

 Have you tried running reindex/recompute fuzzy statistics on the TM from the settings? When a large number of segments is added or deleted, you sometimes need to run those settings to update the translation units number.  I don't think you can rely on the numbers as any sort of accurate indication of the number of TUs in your TM. You could perhaps try a couple of things if you want validation here. 
 
 Take a backup of your SDLTM and put somewhere safe 
 Run the vacuum commend on the TM with a sqlite editor: https://www.sqlite.org/lang_vacuum.html 
 
 I'm not sure whether this will also renumber the TUs, but it might do in addition to compressing the size. Worth a try anyway and the instructions in that URL also explain a little why the numbering can get out of synch. 
 Or... 
 
 export to TMX 
 create a new SDLTM and import the TMX 
 
 That should give you a better idea.
