Error on startup: Service 'Sdl.Desktop.Platform.CommandBars.IActionService' could not be started.

When starting Studio 2014 I get the above message. The complete message reads as follows:

<SDLErrorDetails time="04.12.2014 18:16:00">

I'm fairly new to Trados and completely clueless. Their support is a joke, too, I look around for answers and all I get is a hefty offer to pay $200+ to log a support ticket. All input on this would be appreciated.

  • If I may add on this issue and Paul's suggestions, try to rename the Plugins folder (go to users in Windows 8 or 7, AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\11\Plugins), then create an empty one with exactly the same name. Studio should open well now without a problem, and then you can start ruling out which plugin is causing that error, as I suspect it might be an issue with one of the plugins (open exchange apps). Let me know if that works for you, hopefully. Try it, you won't lose anything, but you will be able to really rule out which plugin or openxchange app is causing the problem. Sam Ragab.

    PS. if this works then I will ask Paul to invite me to a Vanilla  ice cream in Freiburg.
