How can I hide a list that I don't want to translate in a Word document?

Hello everyone!

I need your help to fix my issue with a Word document. I need to translate a table, but only the part inside it, not the title. So, I hide all the document and display only the part I need to translate. For a reason that I don't understand, the Duration list is included in the Source text to translate in Studio, even when it's hidden. I've tried to apply a specific style and configure it to not be translated in the File type of the project settings and Options of Studio. It's still there when I import the file.

Trados Studio screenshot showing a Word document with a table. The 'Duration' list is visible in the source text column despite being hidden in the original document.

What can I do?

  • What version of Studio?  Always important to start with what you're using as this sometimes defines what's available to you.

I'm guessing this is a Content Control so if you had shown this in Studio you'd probably see something like this in the DSI column:

Trados Studio interface showing a document with multiple lines marked with 'CCN' in the DSI column indicating content control structures.

Al the things you don't wish to handle have the CCN DSI structure.  So you could use the Advanced Display Filter (I'm assuming you have 2021) to lock them all like this:

Trados Studio Advanced Display Filter window with a red arrow pointing to the filter options, suggesting the use of filters to lock content controls.

Then copy source to target, set as translated and lock just for completeness:

Trados Studio document view after applying filters, showing all content control lines with green checkmarks indicating they have been copied from source to target and locked.

Then filter on unlocked for ease:

Close-up of Trados Studio document showing the 'Duration' line with a content control tag highlighted in purple, indicating a specific content control to handle.
