My Trados studio freezes when confirming segments

Good day. This is a re-post from a post that didnt get any more replies.

I did what I was told in the first and only reply I got and didnt get any more answers to my post after that.  My Studio freezes all the time and at the beggining it was not all the time, now it started freezing in the first segment I confirmed.

Im using a different source file to see if the problem was that the file was corrupt but that didnt solve it.

Below are the past posts

Thank you for your help. I appreciate it

I looked up and I tried these solutions:

SOLUTION 1

Run a repair installation

Open the Control Panel

Right-click on Start > Control Panel > Select View by: Small Icons > Programs and Features. (I got windows 10)

Click/highlight the relevant SDL product from the list of installed programs, e.g. SDL Trados Studio 2017 SR1, and click Repair. For Trados Studio 2019 / 2021, the button is Uninstall/Change > Repair.

Restart Trados Studio.

SOLUTION 2

Reset SDL Trados Studio basic settings

C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio16

Rename the following XML files (for example, add an underscore before/after the file name)

UserSettings.xml plugincache.xml BaseSettings.xml

Restart Trados Studio.

SOLUTION 3

Reset SDL Trados Studio to default settings (in addition to Workaround 2)

In this solution it is indicated to follow the steps from the KB article Resetting SDL Trados Studio to default state which are the following

You can reset Studio to default settings by renaming the following folders on your machine:

NOTE: You can delete the folders below but ensure that you first back them up, including their contents, to avoid any data loss that may occur.

Windows XP:

  1. C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Local Settings\Application Data\SDL - rename the SDL Trados Studio and ProjectApi folder
  2. C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Application Data\SDL - rename the SDL Trados Studio folder
  3. C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\My Documents - rename the Studio [VERSION] folder to Studio [VERSION]_Old

Windows Vista/7/8/10:

  1. C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\SDL - rename the SDL Trados Studio and ProjectApi folder
  2. C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\SDL - rename the SDL Trados Studio and ProjectApi folder
  3. C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Documents\Studio [VERSION] - rename the Studio [VERSION] folder to Studio [VERSION]_Old

From the 3 possible locations that those folders are, none of them actually contain either the ProjectApi nor the Studio [version] or Studio [version]_old. You can only find the SDL trados studio folder

None of these solutions worked. The program still freezes. Can someone give me some asistance, please?

STEVEN WHALE

Hello Daniel Medina,

Are your projects stored locally or in the cloud?

If it's the latter, try creating a local project and see if the problem persists. (please ensure that Studio/Multiterm is also added to your AntiVirus 'exceptions list')

Next- it's perhaps worth checking if an installed plugin/Machine Translation provider is causing the issue.

Please remove each plugin (one by one) and check if the problem is resolved.

Ok, I will check that out. But no, my projects were not in the cloud, they were open locally. I actually still dont know how to work in the cloud as I recently started.

Thank you. Will try that solution

I do have plugins installed. But they´re downloaded fro the trados app store. Theyre 2. Grammar checker and web lookup. Do you mean a translator directly from the pc through Windows?

In the meantime, I´ll check the antivirus list you mention.Thank you

Hello Steven. Thank you for your previous answer. I wanted to ask you another question since I was looking for the exceptions list that you mention on my antivirus.

My pc is new, got win 10. Do you mean the McCafee AV software that came with it or windows Defender?

I coudnt find the list on the McCaf AV settings, but I found the exceptions option in Defender. But when you click on that, they dont give me a list of programs, they give me the option of adding exclusions, but they give 4 options for it: file, folder, file type and process. They dont give me option of excluding a program. And also about the plugins. Should I unsintall the 2 plugins that I installed from the trados app store? Those are the only ones I have knowledge of. And I don´t really know if I have any other translation tool installed. Im assuming I dont, but is that "machine tranlsation provider" that you mention supposed to be incuded in the windows 10 software package? cz if that´s the case, I dont even know how its called, so I can locate it and turn it off or something

Thank you for your help

I must add that i did added the folder SDL to the exception list on windows Defender, but that didnt really help

Thanks, have a good week
