Generating target file with an XLIFF created from an alignment

Hi!

I have a very precise question. I know there are simpler ways to do this, but I just want to know if it is possible.

Is it possible to generate a target file with an XLIFF created from an alignment file? In the alignement tool, I just clicked on Save as... and I chose XLIFF file.

I tried to do so but I got an error message telling me that it was not possible because the source file format wasn't programmed or something like that.

Thank you!

  • Hi Paul! Thank you for answering.

For circumstances I won’t explain here, we would like to review in Studio a translation that wasn’t done in Studio nor in any other CAT tool. I thought that by aligning the source and target file and saving it as an XLIFF, we could review the XLIFF and then generate the target file.

We found another way, though. We align the source and target file and import it into a TM. Then, we create the project with the same source file and then we pretranslate with the 100 % from the alignment.

I was also wondering, if a translator was to use another CAT tool, is it easy to convert the bilingual file into an SDLXLIFF so we can review the translation in Studio.

If you have any other ideas, they are more than welcome.

    Thanks again for your answer!
