cannot update fields of Table of Contents in word target file

Hi everyone,

I have to deliver a translation today and I cannot update the fields of the Table of Contents in the target file. It is a word file, converted from a pdf original.

When I click on the ToC to update the fields, I get two headers and one of them has the following message:

“The current document does not contain a summary field. To insert one, click the Table of Contents field on the References tab. If the table of contents has been created manually, you will need to update it manually.”

The Table of Contents works perfectly in the word file I generated from the pdf.

Can somebody help me please? Thank you in advance!!!

  • Sorry to hear you have this stress just as your project is due to be delivered.

I did a quick internal search and while there is lots to be said about ToC, non matches your exact error.
I assume you have ensured all tags in target file have been correctly handled?

If you are unsure please do the following:

Project Settings -> Verification -> Tag Verifier

Ensure you are notified if there are tags deleted (at a minimum)

Trados Studio screenshot showing Project Settings with Verification tab open, highlighting Tag Verifier options with errors for 'Tag added' and 'Tag deleted'.

Once done, run the verifier by pressing F8 to ensure all tags are in place before generating target document.

If its not sensitive, can you share your file with me to see if I can speed up the root cause and help you get it back to your client ASAP?
