I suggest you perform a reset.  Something isn't right and this isn't a setting problem.

You could use this app for the reset and this will also explain what you will lose by carrying out a reset before you do it:

appstore.sdl.com/.../

But if you'd rather do this manually then rename this folder (just add _old to the end or something, it's not important what you rename it to) and restart Studio:

c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio16

So the path would become this:

c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio16_old

If you can't find this folder then you need to unhide your hidden files/folders:

www.howtogeek.com/.../

Thank you Paul,  I have been using Trados for 7 years so "Reset" was well known to me. The recommendation on manual "Reset" is pointless as I have recently set Trados up on a new computer - so the "old" is the same as the current.

Do you know where the Settings are to change the background highlighting of the alternate Segments?

as I tried to explain, there is no setting for this. I suggest you try the reset. If we involve support to help this is the first thing they will try.

The idea that your old is the same as the current doesn’t really hold water. Something has gone wrong so a reset is the best initial approach.

Thank you for the direct answer that there is no setting for this. And thank you for your patience. I have now reset many times, both before and since my post (including following your manual instruction), this does not seem to make any difference.
The issue appears to be outside of Trados. The shading between segments appears when my screen is switched to Night Light Settings - but I have not been able to find a display setting that shows up the shading under normal daytime display. (see screenshot below - the first is with Night Light On and the second with Night Light Off - when I view this post before hitting "send" - in my browser the visibility of the segment shading in BOTH of these screen shots appears with Night Light On and disappears with Night Light Off ). So I am sorry to have troubled you - it seems the problem is at my end.

I have found the answer to the problem of the alternate segment shading not displaying. My new computer has Radeon Graphics. With the monitor adjustment and with Windows display adjustments, altering Brightness made no difference. BUT as soon as opened the Radeon Display Settings and switched to "Custom Colour" a slight movement on the Brightness slider soon brought the segment shading into view.

Thanks for confirming Andrew Flower... this may be useful for someone else if we see this come up again.  It's not always our fault ;-)
