Spaces added in coding after a question mark in Madcap file (Chinese translation)

Hi all,

I was wondering if you could help.

I am translating an XML Madcap file for a client into Chinese. Within this file there is plenty of coding that Trados coverts to tags - so far so good. In the translation, there are some UI terms that stay in English. One example of this is "Visibile?". I have noticed that when I generate the target files, Trados adds a space in the coding that follows the word "Visible?", specifically between the tags "bpt>Visible?<ept id="2" xmlns="urn:oasis:names:tc:xliff:document:1.2"></span></</ept></mrk> <mrk mtype="protected" mid="2" MadCap:segmentStatus="Untranslated" MadCap:matchPercent="0" />" (I have underlined where the space is added by Trados). This added space causes the Madcap file not to work properly and it can't be used. When I remove the question mark and re-generate the target file, the space is gone.

Up to now, I've been removing the space manually, but is there a way to stop the Trados doing this altogether? I know that for Chinese, a space is typically added after punctuation so I am sure that this is the cause but wondered if there is a setting to stop Trados editing the coding or to stop adding the space?

any advice would be greatly appreciated!
