I've just finished working on an XLF file in Trados 2017 (note : I had to open and translate it as a single file, wasn't able to create a project for some reason) and when I finalised it I realised that the generated text had both the source and target languages in the same file...which I definitely don't want! I only want the target language. Can anyone tell me how I can acheive that ?

Why not? You have an XLF file and an XLF does contain the source and target text because it's a bilingual file.
Perhaps you can explain why you think this is incorrect and also show what you expected to see?
