My translator has translated my SDLXLIFF file using MemoQ but is unable to save the target SDLXLIFF. I can add the MQXLIFF to my TM but when I then try to 'translate' my SDLXLIFF the TM does not have the tags (the source file is XLF) and so I have to add the tags to every unit and it's a big file. Is there a way to use the content from the MQXLIFF file to populate my SDLXLIFF?

Did your translator place the tags in memoQ? If not then you cannot expect them to be there when you handle the mqxliff in Trados Studio.
If the tags were added, then I guess you could try exporting the TM as a TMX in memoQ and using that to create an SDLTM for pre-translating the project in Studio. I don't know why this would help if the mqxliff doesn't, but it may be worth trying as it's a trivial exercise.
