commas between numbers don't appear in target segments

Hi,

As shown in the screen shot, the figures in the source segments (Arabic) have commas but these commas disappeared in many of the target segments (English). What's the reason for that and how do I solve this problem? Thanks for your help.

  • Hi

You are absolutely right. The numbers on the English target side should include some kind of format and in your case you want it be a comma.

I have a few questions for you:

Q1. What version of Studio are you using?
Q2. What are your TM settings?
Q4. Does it work with other language combinations or TM's?

In order to understand fully how your target numbers are being managed, it would have been easier for me to see you on an active example segment.

I want to see your quickplace behaviour (Ctrl+,)  - like in my example

Screenshot of Trados Studio segment with missing quickplace underline for numbers on the source side.

The reason I ask about TM and TM settings is because there has been a lot of rework around TM's in 2021 and how it manages placeables such as dates, numbers etc.

Please can you share a screen print of your TM settings:

It could be that numbers is not enabled and if you look as the source example, I no longer have the blue underline offering me quickplace.

Trados Studio Translation Memory settings window with 'Numbers' option circled in red, indicating a potential issue.

It could be that your settings for converting numbers from source to target is not correct

Detailed view of 'Number Formats' settings in Trados Studio showing options for thousand separator and decimal separator.

If all of these seems ok, then I would try run a sanity check reviewing the TM settings

Trados Studio Translation Memory settings dialog with a warning message about potential performance issues when changing settings.

I hope this will help drive areas of clarification and that we get to resolve this for you soon

    Looking forward to your response

    Lydia
