Hi Eftychia,
This is not normally a problem and is just a message to advise you that the sdlxliff file you are working with was prepared by someone else using a filetype that you don't have. The implications of this are that you can translate and return the sdlxliff, but you may be lacking some functionality such as being able to save the target file, use quick inserts, or live preview for example.
I'm not sure what this has to do with you being unable to save your TM though? Are you sure this is what you meant?
