Convert the PDF with a decent OCR software and use the resulting Word file. Do not rely on any automated conversion, as the results always will be poor. Dealing with PDF files is all but not easy and using automated converters is asking for trouble.

I'll try with a converted file and I'll see if it works. Thank you very much!
Please really use something like Abbyy FineReader or similar and go through the process manually. Make sure all tables are recognized as tables, no "fly shit" is treated as letters, all pictures remain pictures and so on. This can be a demanding task, but the translation will be much easier.
There are only two good ways of dealing with PDF: either request an editable file from the customer or have a professional layouter convert the file for you. Unless you are not a profi in dealing with OCR and formatting, the result will always be only a half cooked solution. Sorry, but this is a brutal truth, seen from a perspective of over 30 years in this profession. If you are interested in a contact with a professional layouter who can convert a PDF for you, send me a private message and I will give you the contact data,

Thank you very much for your advice. In fact, I converted the file into a pptx and It worked well.
I had been able to work with pdf files before and I hadn't had any problems until today. I guess the problem was that this file had many pictures, tables and charts.
I will consider you offer.
Thanks a lot!
Laura
I did not say, that PDF won't be automatically converted. But if you search for questions asked on editing PDFs, you will notice, that a problem with PDF is reported in several forums like here, Facebook, ProZ and so on more or less every single day.

Thank very much Jerzy!
