Existing termbase is empty

Hi,

I just started a new project for an existing customer and for some reason my termbase appears to be empty. At first, it said something like "termbase could not be connected so term recognition cannot use these termbases". I found the termbase file on my computer, tried re-uploading it to my project as a new termbase and I no longer get the error message, but now there's nothing in the termbase. It doesn't recognizes anything.

Can anyone help me with this? I'm lost. This termbase is a huge part of this project as I am translating a list of very repetitive and specific words. Also, it was a termbase I started from scratch in Trados, not a termbase I uploaded from an existing file.

Thanks in advance...

  • the languages used are French and English

Thank you... can you be a little more specific?

    • French (France, Canana... etc.) for example.  What specific variants have you set, or did you set a generic French and English only?
    • What specific languages have been been used in your project?

  • Hi Paul,

I'm not super familiar with Trados and Multiterm yet so I'm not 100% sure how to tell, but when I open the termbase in Multiterm and click on a term, the languages on the right appear to be just French and English (no specific). But also, when I try to browse the termbases from Trados, it looks like it might be Canadian French and English. See screenshot. The "Cook it (par défaut)" is the original termbase I was trying to use. The other ones are new ones I tried creating to fix the issue. I'm not sure why there's a red X next to it.

Screenshot of Trados Studio showing a termbase named 'Cook it (par d faut)' with a red X indicating an issue. The language pair is set to English and French Canadian.

When I open the project in Trados, on the left, the project appears to be both Canadian French and English. Would that just be the cause of the issue? That would be weird because there are 2 files in the project, the first one is the file I started the termbase from. I could use the termbase normally when I was working on that file. But now, if I go back to this file, it says the termbase can't be used with it, which makes no sense because this is the file the termbase originates from...

Also, since I was on a rush, I just started a new termbase from scratch on Friday to work on the second file. Now, when I open the second file, the termbase is just gone. There's nothing in that upper right rectangle where terms would normally appear.

To be honest, I'm just very lost. I don't know if it's just me misunderstanding something, but everthing seems to be going wrong with Trados ever since I started working with it.

    Thanks again.
