Go to File > Setup > Project Templates > Default > Edit > Language pairs > select and remove superfluous language pairs so that you have not more than 3 target languages for each source language.
*Trados Studio 2021 is no longer limited by 5 source languages, however you still can use no more than 3 target languages with the Freelance version.

And yes, I already tried that, but how do I remove the suplerfluous "language pairs"?

Now, my " language pairs" are something like Eng > Spain Spanish, Eng > Colombian Spanish, English > Mexican Spanish, etc.

I don't think these should be considered "language pairs"

These are 3+ target language items. Even though the language is Spanish, the 3 variants occupy all 3 places in the list.
You don't need to add all variants of Spanish in the Project Template list of languages. Select just one (no matter which one you choose). You will be able to add a desired specific variant when creating a project.

As a matter of fact, I never added them as language pairs, because I don't consider them language pairs..
I only added Eng > Peruvian Spanish.
I guess that Studio added them. 

I don't know how come that they appear there, but somehow it happens :)

Changes to the template will only be reflected once you create a new project (not in existing projects).

The problem is that I can't edit the template. I mean, I can't remove a language pair.

It should be obvious, but I don't see any option to remove/delete/erase -or whatever it's called- a language pair.

And to add fuel to the flame, I updated Studio, thinking -yes I am very naive- that maybe the last update would fix it.

But nope, the same problem, and even worse, because when I try to create a project now, Studio takes forever and never ends, so I have to close it the bad way,.

I guess I'll have to uninstall and reinstall it.

Meanwhile, I am working with a diff CAT tol. :(

I didn't even understand you could not resolve it. I thought you removed them...
Just click Language Pairs as shown on your screenshot. A button will appear.

*SDL Trados profile refers to Trados 2007 shortcuts. Are you sure you want them?
If you normally confirm segments with Ctrl+Enter, that means you have chosen a wrong profile. It must be 'Default', most probably (unless you are absolutely sure and know that you need the 'SDL Trados' profile).

This is the most ridiculous thing I have seen in a long time. Trados has blocked me and I can't create new projects. Where do I remove the additional "languages"?

But, we are not talking about different languages, we are talking about dialects...

A colleague of mine who works with Studio 2022 Freelance SR2 fully updated got the same error message. I first had a look at the Default template that she uses, but there were no language pairs listed at all, we had already deleted them a week ago.

We then tried a reset of Trados, to no avail.

Then, she told me that her Trados version is a subscription. I suggested logging in, and suddenly, it was possible to create new projects again.

So for anyone with the same issue: It seems that logging in is required to benefit from the full functionality of the subscription version.

Question to RWS Support: How long can you work without logging in? I think I read somewhere about that but cannot find this information.
