How to mark words in InDesign which does not require translation?

Hi all,

I translate catalogues and user manuals and many times there are words which do not need to be translated because is the model name or a word appearing on a button/connector or a software interface.

The files I get are InDesign (.idml) and we wonders whether there are any tool to mark these kind of words so I can clearly see which words does not need to be translated.

Hope I made the issue clear enough!

Thanks!

  • Hi

If it came to other file types I would easily be able to support you in a number of ways.
But IDML does not support custom tags nor does IDML support styles, which other file types do which helps hide unwanted content.

What Studio does support for IDML is: Extract Hidden Conditional text content. See screen print below:

Its not enabled by default, but if you enable it and use "hidden conditional text" within your IDML for your "unwanted words" then Studio will give you an improved UX when it comes to managing this content.

Sadly I dont have IDML to help you further but I hope this points you in the right direction
