Reproduceable bug when merging across paragraphs and a workaround

Hi

I don't know if this is the only bug when merging across paragraphs, but I have been hit by this one 3 or 4 times already this month:

Let's say you have 3 segments, with segment 1 in one paragraph and segments 2 and 3 in another paragraph, like this (note the paragraph marks at the right-hand side):Trados Studio interface showing three segments with segment 1 in one paragraph and segments 2 and 3 in another, indicated by paragraph marks on the right.

Select and merge all 3 segments and then perform a translation count. You will see an error. (At least I do in Studio 2019.)

Now go back to the original situation and try again, but this time first select and merge segments 2 and 3 (in the same paragraph) and then select and merge the remaining two segments (i.e. across the paragraph mark). If you perform a translation count now, there is no error.

Now go back to the original situation and try again, but this time first select and merge segments 1 and 2 (across the paragraph mark) and then select and merge the resulting two segments. (After first unhiding and unlocking the hidden empty segment.) You will see an error.

So now when I am translating a butchered PDF conversion that has been sent to me, before I merge more than two segments, I first check the right-hand column to see whether there are any paragraphs marks that could cause problems. If so, then I merge the segments in the order above.
