I do think there is a problem here and we'll have to investigate it.  If I use these settings, so I also check for missing formatting tags:

Then I can do this where I remove all the tags in the target:

This works correctly and reports all the missing tags.  But if I do this and only remove one formatting tag pair:

Then the missing formatting tags are not reported at all.

So the advice I can offer for now is to make sure that you have the correct options set for the type of tags you are looking for and see if you can still validate your finding.  In the meantime I'll raise a case for the support team to check and move to development if needed.

Thanks very much for your quick reply!

The options are correct for the type of tags I'm looking for. They are not formatting tags, but image tags and as I said in my first post, their absence is reported when they are part of a segment with other text, but is not reported when they are alone in a segment.

Let's hope the support team can find a solution :-)

This is caused by defect CRQ-23833 which will be fixed in SR2. Until then there is a DLL listed in the KB:

which solves the issue but involves messing with the Studio DLL's.  I'm not sure if this will fixed for 2019 yet... will try to get back to you again when I know more.
