To ensure the termbase remains uncluttered, a fair amount of maintenance is going to be required.

Many thanks for sharing that article , I had come across it already in my quest to resolve this termbase issue. In the end I got a developer to write a script, ran that script on the xls file that I exported via the Glossary Converter and the result was a clean xls with the duplicate entries merged.
