Script Error 'The specified path, file name, or both are too long. The fully qualified file name must be less than 260 characters, and the directory name must be less than 248 characters'.

Hallo.

While uploading a document for transaltion in SDL trados 2017 i got the message Script Error 'The specified path, file name, or both are too long. The fully qualified file name must be less than 260 characters, and the directory name must be less than 248 characters'. My document could not be opened at all. What does this depend on. How can such a problem be solved? Thankful for an answer.

Best regards

Jenny

  • I don't think you're opening a Worldserver package.  You clearly don't know what this is so I truly doubt you are working with one.  Maybe just pay attention to the message you have?

'The specified path, file name, or both are too long. The fully qualified file name must be less than 260 characters, and the directory name must be less than 248 characters'

Can you share the full path including the name of the file that you are trying to open?  For example, I might try to open these files:

    c:\Users\pfilkin\Documents\SDL\TESTING\0000 - Paul testing\Deepl - Portuguese\responses.txt

    or this file:

    c:\Users\pfilkin\Documents\SDL\Presentations\2021\03 - Trados Language Cloud UI\(210210) new_Trados UI.pptx

Just provide the full path as I have done to the files you are trying to open.

It would also be helpful if you can provide the path you are using to save your project including the project name?  For example:

    c:\Users\pfilkin\Documents\Studio 2021\Projects\002 - Gdynia-Kosakowa Airport\

    or this:

    c:\Users\pfilkin\Documents\Studio 2021\Projects\003 - Political Disorder\

These bits of information might help us to see where the problem is coming from since the error message refers to your paths being too long.
