Use information from bilingual file to update TU system fields

Hello,

When importing a TMX file into an empty TM, should I select "Use information from bilingual file to update TU system fields" and what does it mean? Thanks a lot in advance!

  • Hi Paul,

Thank you for you reply. Actually, I'm going to import a TMX file from Olifant (after cleaning) to an empty TM in Trados. Do you think I should select "Use information from bilingual file to update TU system fields" in this case? I'm afraid it will add some unnecessary information from Olifant.

  • Maybe take a copy of your files and test it?  Easy enough and you won't break anything :-)

I would note however that there is a bug here that needs to be fixed.  I said "in theory" because the system fields should be overwritten.  But I tested a bit and it's very inconsistent.  The bug number is CRQ-23478.

So, I'd recommend you have a play with a copy and test it out to see what happens.  It may be easier to use a very small TM with only a few TUs in it and then you can easily manipulate the data to see what's happening before you do something with a larger dataset.  Even with things that work perfectly I'd always do this first so I properly understood what was happening under the hood.
