In Germany (where my customers are), translations are normally billed per standard line, a standard line consisting of 55 characters including spaces in the source document. In the old days, you would have to open your Word document, press Alt+P+W, then you'd have a character count and would determine the line count by dividing that through 55.
I use a small tool called PractiCount (and there's plenty more counting tools out there) that, nowadays, performs that task for me on multiple documents and returns exactly the same line count as my old-fashioned manual count in Word would have done.
In Trados, I can only count words or segments reliably. When I count the number of characters, Trados always counts a completely different number than Word, so the character count in Trados is useless fo rme.I have so far not been able to determine a reliable logic so that I could extrapolate the number of characters the Trados count would equate to in Word. I used to assume that it may not count the spaces, but: The number of characters counted in Trados is lower than the number of "characters including spaces" in Word, but higher than the "number of characters excluding spaces" in Word.
Is there any way I can count the number of "characters including spaces" or the number of standard lines (at 55 characters including spaces in the source text) in Studio??
