Couple of questions on speed issues with F8

I'm used to Studio being incredibly slow at checking large files on F8 but are there any settings that speed up this painful process?

I'm talking about the following:

  1. F8 itself takes forever on large files, I'm talking literally something like 15 to 20 minutes.
  2. Once we have the F8 results screen, typing in a segment to change something that is incorrect is also jerky and slow. Often, menus and other stuff will appear because Studio thinks I have typed a shortcut or some such.
  3. And when you then commit the segment (because we might have repetitions, so we want to catch them all), it also takes several seconds for all of this to work, as many as 10 in fact. I have tried switching off everything I can think of here and nothing seems to make a difference. Even switching off all QA checks in options makes zero difference.

As it is, this is unusable and I'll be QA'ing in another tool today. With large files and maybe 2,000 or so segments needing checking after F8, this makes the whole process effectively impossible in any normal time frame.

I'm running verification with everything set as standard but match set to 90. I had hoped this would be faster, but 10 minutes later and I am still staring at a progress bar.

  • Hi ,

Many thanks for getting back to me on this as always.

I have since found a good workaround: going to options and deactivating the "Verification" check while working with the F8 results list:

Trados Studio Options menu with 'Verification' check under QA Checker 3.0 section deactivated to speed up confirming segments.

This speeds things up to the normal speed (SDL Studio is normally very fast with confirming and moving to the next segment).

Previously, I had just deactivated QA checks in the QA section of Options. This had no effect, somewhat illogically.

Now I just need a whole bunch of other things fixed/explained with terminology work, for which I will start another issue :=)
