When I am selecting terms in Trados to create a termbase entry, the program informs me that there is already a term like that in the termbase and asks me if I want to edit the existing term. When I say yes, the program merges the origin term with others that have the same translation.
Let me make an example. Let's say that currently in my termbase I have the following entries:
ALFA=GAMMA
BETA=DELTA
Now I want to add to BETA also GAMMA, so I select the two words in my segments and press quick add new term.
When the program asks me if I want to edit the existing term and I say yes, what I want is that the end result be:
1) BETA=DELTA, GAMMA
The program, instead, what it does is:
2) ALFA, BETA=DELTA, GAMMA
I don't want it to create the equation ALFA=DELTA, which is not necessarily true.
In the past, I did not have this problem. I seem to remember that the program asked me once if I wanted to merge segments and I said yes because in that instance the action was appropriate. And since then the program does it automatically all the time.
How can I change that setting? Or cannot it be changed? In that case, is the only option I have to create all single entries, that is to reply no when it asks me if I want to edit the existing term?
Thank you
Anna
