I should note that I've now noticed the problem occurs specifically on segments where the TM has tried to autofill. The TM was imported from a tmx provided be the client. This has not been a problem the entire time I've used this TM, however. It was much worse today.

What version of windows are you using?  If it's W7/8.1 or Server 2012 R2 it may be that you need to upgrade since Trados Studio 2021 relies on a more modern operating system.

There is a KB here that seems to offer a solution for Trados Studio 2015:

Perhaps Vlad Bondor could confirm if this is suitable for later versions of Trados Studio as well?  I think it will be but better to check.

I'm on Windows 10. I've got it working without the Termbase for now, but obviously I'd like to understand the issue to avoid its coming up in future.

Can you check the full version number of Studio AND MultiTerm that you are using?  Current production versions are these:

Trados Studio 2021 - 16.1.8.4404
MultiTerm 2021 - 16.1.1.541

If you don't have both of these please update and then try again.

I am running the latest versions of both.
