I think you need to provide a little more information to help us answer this one. A sample of the file would help, and explain what it looks like now and what you want it to look like afterwards.

OK Paul. Could you give your mail address to send you the original doc separately as it is highly confidential (Secret Defence).
I loaded it into Studio and translated with no problem and now I wasted the whole afternoon trying to generate the target file. Word refuses to cope with some XML elements contained in the text. That's why I wanted to remove all the < > in both the source and the translation. But I can't do it in the source. There is most probably a simpler way to do it.

I don't want your file. I only wanted to understand your problem because you have not explained it at all.
Based on this second message I now understand that you have a Word document and not an XML file. I also understand you translated it ok but are getting some sort of an error in Word. So on this basis it would be helpful to know a few things:

The source document is a pdf and I use Microsoft 365 docx
