This is a known problem but according to RWS, it is not a bug but a feature. The idea is to discourage people from sending bilingual files for review and then importing them back. RWS wants everyone to buy a Trados license and use that.
Sometimes I'm lost for words when I read the comments in here. Where did you read this, even "albeit not directly"?

The reason we have this feature in the software is exactly because we want people to be able to use it. I can only think Pavel is referring to something else.
There can be any number of reasons why the bilingual review file fails to update the Studio project correctly but it's hard to identify why you are having a problem without being involved in the process you have gone through. Perhaps this article will be of help?
