files merge as bilingual

how to combine 2  word files  (1 is English and 1 is translated in another language) to deliver as bilingual format line by line?

Parents
  • The instructions will vary depending on what you need to be able to do with this bilingual file and also what format you want it in.  I get the feeling that because you said this:

to deliver as bilingual format line by line?

You probably want it readable, so as a Word file for example?  But since you are not clear here's some suggestions.

    Alignment
You can use the alignment tool in Trados Studio to create either an SDLALIGN file, which is a bilingual file, or an SDLXLIFF file, which is also a bilingual file.  But neither of these can be used to recreate the original source format, which in this case is Word.

    Translate
You could align the files and use to update a Translation Memory (TM).  Then open one of the Word files in the Trados Studio Editor for translation, pre-translate from the TM, and save the project.  Now you have an SDLXLIFF file in your project that can be used to recreate the source or the target Word file within Trados Studio.

    As a Bilingual Word File
After translating the files as explained above, you could export for bilingual review.  This will get you a Word file with the source text in one column and the target text in another.

    Other ideas
If the file you are after is actually something that retains the formatting of the document, but just contains both languages, either line by line or paragraph by paragraph then this app is quite helpful:

If you just want a vanilla XLIFF of some sort then there are ways to get that as well... but perhaps this will help you to be more specific and explain exactly what you mean?
