OneDrive Translation memory issue

Hi all,

I used to work in a virtual Windows Machine on a Mac and have now switched back to Windows. I am wondering where I should store my 1 TB-translation memory? I am using OneDrive – are there any experiences in this forum how to handle that issue:

1) Can I simply save it to a OneDrive folder and only the changes are updated?

or

2) Shall I save it to a "place" that is not automatically uploaded to OneDrive and then use a backup tool such as Iperius to create a weekly update of my tm?

3) Is there already a more elegant way that I simply don't know?

Thanks.

With warm regards,

Raphael.

  • You can store your files more or less anywhere. This said, I would never store any Studio files on a cloud drive. It simply does not work properly. If the reason for the cloud is backup, so a cloud is not really a backup. If you travel often and need the files online, synchronize these with the cloud only when needed and store locally. Cloud is simply too slow, far too slow to give you enough performance for storing TMs.

Store all your TMs and TBs locally in dedicated folder, located on a SSD, preferably on a M2 SSD. Your Studio projects can be stored anywhere again, but better you put them locally on a HDD or SSD.

So I would go for option 2.

In fact, I am curious for the reason so many people want their stuff on the cloud. Has anyone of them asked their customer for permission to store their data on the cloud? I doubt that very much. But storing a TM on the cloud is putting customer data there. According to the European GDPR rules this is not allowed.
