My client wants me to work in XTM for a particular project, but I'd prefer to do the work in Studio 2021 and then upload into XTM. She's sent me files with xlf extension. But she says that my target file with extension sdlxlf won't upload into XTM. Is there a way of saving my sdlxlf file as just xlf, so she can upload it into XTM? Thanks for your advice.

Normally you can open the file with Trados Studio 2021. I have a client with XTM, too. I download the file from XTM File Manager, save it and open it in Trados Studio 2021. After that I translate it, save the target file. It is saved as XLF, and upload it in XTM.

Thanks for your reply. I've tried this but am getting an error when I try to re-upload. I think it may be because it is an xml file rather than an xlf?

Xliff is an xml format, but if your source file is XML, then Studio will save a monolingual XML file as target, whereas XLIFF is designed to be bilingual. So yes, that could well make a difference. Although you can export any sdlxliff to XLIFF using the remarkable XLIFF Manager plugin, XTM is unlikely to accept an XLIFF where you downloaded an XML.
I don't work with XTM, so that is as much as I can contribute. Might be worth downloading the XLIFF Manager and give your customer an XLIFF (=xlf) file to try.
If that does not work then it depends on which data import XTM supports.
