Just checking... are you trying to actually open the *.sdlproj file to translate it?  Perhaps you wanted to do one of these things:

1. copy the whole project to your other computer and then open the *.sdlproj using "Open Project" as this is a project file containing only metadata to tell Studio where to find the translatable file and other resources... or
   
   
2. translate the *.sdlxliff file as this is what contains the translations

Apologies if you already know this stuff... but seems a good thing to check since I don't know how much you know about the product.

Hi Paul, thank you for getting back to me. It's a translated file I wanted to open. And the reason I wanted to open it was because the client couldn't open it either so I was trying to figure out what was happening. And I still don't know. 

And "Open Project" doesn't work. This is when I get the message. All other files saved on this machine with the same extenstion don't appear to cause any trouble and I can open them with no problem.

I'm afraid I'm still not clear about your approach here.  Can you confirm in clear terms for me, apologies...

1. what file are you trying to open?
2. what are the steps you're following to try and open it?
3. what error message are you getting?

I'm trying to open an .sdlproj file. I use the "open project" option and select the file (from my local drive). The message I'm getting is: "Error. This project cannot be opened in the Studio Edition you are using. Only project packages or single document can be opened." Thank you for bearing with me :-)

Can you open the sdlxliff? Copy it into a new folder to test and then use the singe document workflow to quickly open it - Ctrl+Shift+O.

No, it won't let me. 

I think what actually happened was that the file got corrupted while saving. I got home by now and followed the whole process again, i.e. emailed the original .sdlproj file as an attachment once more and this time I managed to open it on the laptop with no issues. I've read somewhere that .sdlproj files tend to get corrupted so I assume this is what happened on this occasion. 

I just wanted to get to the bottom of it for the future to avoid similar issues. Anyway, thank you so much for trying to help.
