I just upgraded to studio 2021 freelance and cannot save my file nor update the TM of the current project.

Hi All,

I get....
Kan een gedeelte van het pad C:\Users\pijki\AppData\Local\Temp\SDLTempFileRegen\sdlxliff_2b5d3bb2-2552-42e7-8368-be75c08b223a.tmp niet vinden.

That means' a part of the path not found' ( in Dutch)
A whole day's worth of translation is visible on the right hand side of editor but if I open the TM none of it is there. I am afraid to close Studio and find everything lost.
I read that antivirus programme may have deleted a temp file but my Norton doesn't seem to do this.

In the editor window it shows I have completed the translation and I verified it without any problems coming up but now that I want to close it and create a return package I get this message..

Error message in Trados Studio indicating a missing file path for a temporary file with a list of system file operations below it.

The directory it is looking for doesn't exist. In the temp folder there is a folder 'SDLTempFileManager' but not 'SDLTempFileRegen'

I'm going nuts.

Can anyone help please??

  • Just a point to help ease the stress you must be under. As long as your translation is in the SDLXLIFF file  - we can update your TM at a later time.

But to try see whats going on here please can you try the advice given here: https://gateway.rws.com/csm?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0039395

Often reviewing these xml files help solve many issues: But failing that, there is additiona advice about repairing Studio.

    • BaseSettings.xml
    • Plugincache.xml
    • UserSettings.xml

But failing that, there is additional advice about repairing Studio

Looking forward to your confirmation and if required I would be more than happy to continue supporting you

  • Hi Lyds,

Thank you for your response. I was getting pretty stressed out yesterday. I took a chill pill and managed to sort it out myself.

As I had just upgraded to Studio 2021 and I was working on a project TM that I had used in a previous assignment (while using Studio 2019), I decided to dig into the still existing 2019 folders.

I found that the new project was referencing both the old TM and the new project TM in the 2021 folder. The poor thing had got confused..

I deleted the old project TM and when I reopened the file I just had to accept all the TM hits that it found.

This does beggar the question if it is wise to uninstall the previous Studio version before installing the new one. There isn't any clear advice about this when you're updating.

I have updated my version of Studio a number of times throughout the years and always seem to run into problems which involve appending system files with '_old' to stop the new version from referring to them.

Most software programs seem to do this automatically when upgrading, Studio does not however.

I hope that my experience will be of use to someone else should they get into the same difficulties.

    Thanks again for your response.
