"Object reference not set to an instance of an object" when I use Concordance Search

Hello,

I'm having this issue every time I try to use Concordance Search in a specific project I have been working on for months. I have already tried these and those solutions, but none of them worked.

Any clues?

Cheers

  • Hey

That does sound so annoying - what I am picking up on is you saying "specific project".

So I assume it does not happen with other projects?
Can you recreate your project and reproduce the same error?
Is it a particular search or work that evokes this error?
What if you took an example word/sentence only, and placed it in a fresh new project / document - does the error still show?
Does it show itself in the message window but does not actually stop you from working?
When you view the list of supported files, within the project settings - do you see SDLXLIFF?

I am trying to understand a bit more the relationship between the project files / TM data as this error is so generic.

Looking forward to getting a better understanding on how best to help you more

  • Hello ,

Thanks for replying. I didn't answer before because I was trying to solve the problem recreating the project itself/the TM (Export>Import) and delivering the project's new tasks. Unfortunately, that workaround also didn't solve it. Let me answer your questions:

    1) So I assume it does not happen with other projects?

    - Yes, for now, it's just happening in this one, but it's the biggest project I've been working on, and I'm afraid it happens with others in the future.

    2) Can you recreate your project and reproduce the same error?

    - Yes, as I said before. I created a new one, and try to use a new (Import>Export) TM, but the problem persists.

    3) Is it a particular search or work that evokes this error?

    - Curiously, there is a pattern that I didn't catch yet. Sometimes, the concordance search shows the results, but sometimes, its window appears blank ("No matches found", and below: "There was a problem while searching. See the Messages Window for more information", which brings me to the post's title error message).

    4) What if you took an example word/sentence only, and placed it in a fresh new project / document - does the error still show?

    - If I got this right, the problem is not happening in other/new projects. The error only appears in this specific one.

    5) Does it show itself in the message window but does not actually stop you from working?

    - No, the program doesn't close/freeze, but it stops me from using a TM with thousands of TU and years of lifetime with some sentences/words I highlight for searching.

    6) When you view the list of supported files, within the project settings - do you see SDLXLIFF?

    - Yes, SDLXLIFF is shown regularly among the other formats in project settings.

    Any ideas?

    Best regards,
