SDL Studio 2021 Document Search Match

Hello,

We have always used SDL Studio 2017 but recently bought the SDL Live subscription, imported the TM and Termbases from SDL 2017,  but because we wanted a familiar interface we decided to upgrade the SDL Studio 2017 to 2021 and logged in to that application using the SDL Live accounts,

The Issue we have is that the Studio 2021 does not always bring up the previous documents we had translated back in Studio 2017. Is there a reason why this is happening ?

Thank you

  • Hello

    Thank you for your post.

Please allow for me to clarify what I do understand as there are parts that require further clarification so that I can continue to support you.

    What I understand is:

    • You have upgraded from 2017 to 2021
    • You also have Trados Live as part of 2021
    • You want access to your 2017 projects

What I don't fully understand is:

    1. Did you migrate your termbase and TM to Trados Live?
    2. Where are you creating your projects, in Studio or Trados Live?
    3. Are you getting an error when trying to access documents translated previously in 2017?
    4. Are you wanting to access your 2017 projects because they were not completed yet or because of features like Perfect Match perhaps

The last question is important as I am trying to understand when you say

Studio 2021 does not always bring up the previous documents we had translated back in Studio 2017.

Therefore the reason why you want the 2017 and what workflow / steps you are taking is important given you are implying it does sometimes work but not always.

In the meantime what I can clarify is:

    • All 2017 projects remain untouched when upgrading to 2021
    • Their state would not have been changed and can be accessed locally based on where you saved them (local path)
    • When upgrading to 2021 the projects pane would appear empty, but once again you can browse back to the 2017 project path to reopen your projects

    Looking forward to your clarifications

    Lyds

  • Hi Lydia

    Here are my responses

    1. Did you migrate your termbase and TM to Trados Live?
YES I exported the TM and Termbase, then imported it to Trados Live

    2. Where are you creating your projects, in Studio or Trados Live?
Projects are created in Trados Live now

    3. Are you getting an error when trying to access documents translated previously in 2017?
No errors in accessing documents, The main issue is that many previously-translated segments are not showing up in the online editor (or in the Studio 2021 interface for cloud-based projects when we tested it). Our workaround has been to use Studio 2017 either for lookups or to load the document and then copy and paste the previously translated segments into the online editor.

    4. Are you wanting to access your 2017 projects because they were not completed yet or because of features like Perfect Match perhaps
No issues with the projects its about segments not showing up like in 2017.

Is the algorithm for searching in 2017 different from that of SDL Live, was the logic changed in the search or there is a setting we can enable to provide the segments like it did in 2017 ?

I hope my answers are helpful for a response

    Thank you

  • Hi

Thank you for your answers. I now understand your concern being the amount of leverage you are getting from your Translation Memories.

If you read the release notes for 2019 and 2021, there have been significant changes to the options around TM management.
But we need to factor in Trados Live as that is where you say you migrated your TM to, although we don't forsee changes between Studio 2021 and Trados Live 2021 when it comes to TM processing.

I will send you a Private Message to assist you further as I would need to see a live example.
