That still sucks because Trados, when it pulls something from its TM, treats all emoji the same i.e. I have jobs with strings such as

{4><4}

which Trados treats as

{4>emoji<4}

and when it encounters another string, it matches that as

{4><4}

even if it's actually 

{4><4}

and if I try to fix it I get that idiotic "Protected tags cannot be edited" warning that nobody seem to know how to turn off. So I am forced to translate in Trados and then go into a 3rd party editor to manually fix the emoji that Trados mismatched.

Can you share an example of that?  The tags are essentially placeholders so they should be replaced by what was in the source segment, not the TM as the TM doesn't know what emoji it is.  If it doesn't do this then something is wrong somewhere.

I restarted my PC, Microsoft had installed some updates slowing down the system and now it seems to be behaving itself all of a sudden  why is it always me who gets these irritating, hard to replicate bugs???

Try logging in as someone else... I think it knows who you are ;-)
