Trados Studio capped at ca. 15% of my CPU and freezes when above

Hello everyone,

Trados Studio (2019 version, will use 2021 in a few weeks or so) can't use more than ca. 15% of my CPU (Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700 CPU @ 3.40GHz, 4GHz in Turbo mode) and then freezes (and sometimes shuts down). It can happen when working on large files or with large TMs for example (I have 32Gb of RAM and an SSD, so the CPU is the only issue).

I tried to give it a higher priority for CPU usage in the tasks manager, but it didn't change anything. Other opened programs use roughly 5/10% of my CPU, so when Studio freezes the total CPU usage is about 20-25% only.

I use Hunspell spell checker and no problem with my AV software.

Does someone have any idea to fix this?

Have a lovely evening,

Romain

  • Upgrade to Studio 2021 should help a lot with performance as there are improvements done to Editor view.

Rest depends on where is the bottleneck. You did not mention how large(size / number of segments ) are the files you're working on or how large are the TM's and if they are set to speed (specially if they are large).

I would recommend to try and identify where is the bottleneck by disabling temporary some of the resources you use (TM, Termbase, plugins).

Make sure to also keep project files and resources on the SSD.

Some operations in Studio are indeed multithreaded, like the batch tasks where Studio does use more CPU power but if you try to open extremely large files then there can be issues.

    Hope this helps.
