Error uploading Memsource files processed in Studio 2021 SR2 into Memsource Editor

Hi all,

I am processing a large .mxliff file in Studio 2021 16.2.8.9097. I have no problems when I create a project and process the file. But after creating the target segment I tried several times importing it into Memsource editor to deliver it to the agency, and I always got the same Error: Impossible opening MXLIFF file, which gives me no clue about the problem.

After reading previous posts, I uninstalled the Memsource Cloud plug-in (which I cannot use since I don't have a Memsource license) and uploaded the latest Memsource filetypes for Memsource, but nothing worked.

Any other suggestions?

Thank you in adavance,

Maria Luisa

  • For anyone who could be following this thread.

The error from Memsource is far from helpful and despite the file in question is a mxliff, it can be opened in Studio with the relevant plugin installed.
It's at this point the "error" Studio gave was far more transparent as to what is wrong with the file
Error message in Trados Studio stating 'Failed to open file' with details about the error location and type, originating from Memsource Xliff v 1.0.0.

If you then open the mxliff in an editor environment like notepad++ and locate this spot I found these

Screenshot showing an error in Trados Studio with the source text 'Samples Ana' followed by an unpaired tag which is highlighted.

From my experience, it could be anything not just < /> but nevertheless when they are removed/replaced the file then opened well in Studio and in Memsource.

Memsource Editor interface displaying the successfully opened mxliff file with source and target text translations for English to Italian.

Concern would be that there where more than 1 instance of these in the document and for the purpose of troubleshooting I simply removed them and left a blank space. The question now would be how best to handle these < /> as they are part of the source and clearly not parses optimally when the bilingual files are being created.

While we at RWS have an article about this for our own native files which can be found here, I am not at liberty to assume for this native file.

M it a pleasure progressing to a state where the file can be opened and the translations retrieved
