In that case it might be worth shortening the folder structure. That means moving your package to a single folder or to a simpler folder structure. See also gateway.sdl.com/.../communityknowledge

That can't be the issue since Studio has always used the same structure for the Temp file folder. Also, I save the packages in the same way as before (i.e. no deeper structures and longer names). As I said, the issue appeared out of nowhere and I have not changed anything on my PC r in Studio.

While I understand you dont determine the project/file names you can influence where the package/project is stored. Try ensure its local to C drive, not using 3rd party tools and in as few folders as possible so the path to it is not overly nested / adding to character counts.

But I do take your point that it was working fine till recently, so could it be there was a windows/security update that has caused blockers? 
I assume the issue is package specific and not a general issue?

Unfortunately, that doesn't help either. The issue is a general issue. While I can open packages sent from clients, I cannot save my work. That's when I get the error - during manual or automatic save while working on packages. Hence, I cannot create a return package for the client. I also had this same error while trying to create a package for a client where there were xliff files sent as work files by the client. I assume this is a general issue with the randomization of temp-file names for xliff files.

Dear all,

I still haven't been able to solve this issue. It continues occurring and hinders my work with the product. I counted - the number of characters in the path is more than halfway below the limitation (108 to be precise). Also, I went to the temp folder to see if there's any issue there. Oddly, I cannot see an SDLTempFileRegen folder there. It seems, Studio cannot create the temp file folder it needs to work. 

I am in urgent need of help. My clients are requesting projects that I cannot work on because of this issue.

I have seemingly solved the issue. The issue was that Studio could not create an SDLTempFileRegen folder in my Temp folder to store the temporary files. I created a folder with that name by myself. Now everything seems to be working fine.

Then I also found a similar problem which I solved the same way. 
<ErrorMessage>Failed to save target content: Source file not found</ErrorMessage>
I created the folder and file that Trados couldn't find: C:\Users\Wendy\Downloads\tom ppt\en-GB\name_of_source_file
