Hi, 

I cannot open bilingual excel files, excel files and even word files without getting the error message above, and then Studio crashes when I type something in an empty segment and save the segment in the TM.

I have Trados Studio 2021, have applied the latest update. Studio runs on Windows 10.

The problem occurred Error message in Trados Studio 2021 showing 'La reference d'objet n'est pas definie a une instance d'un objet' indicating a null reference exception.when I tried to open a bilingual excel file previously saved in MemoQ as a .mqxlz file.

My reviewer was able to open the file on her version of SDL Studio 2019 and did not get any error message.
I tried to open it in my Studio 2021, it made everything crash.

I have reinitialsed TRADOS Studio 2021 settings, but things haven't changed. Thank you for your help. I'm trying to setup a workflow Translator/Proofreader on a project that involves working with bilingual excel files. 

I mention that I have tested this with files that were not prepared with MemoQ... and I got the same error message.

    Looking at the error stacks I think it's worth attempting a reset yourself.  To do this just close Trados Studio and then rename this folder:

    c:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio16\

    to c:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio16_old\

    Finally restart Trados Studio and try again.

    Hi Paul, thank you for your quick reply on a saturday. Actually, we did this, and since it didn't make things better, we totally reinstalled Trados Studio 2021 ! And I dstill have the proble with the brand new install! I don't understand. I tested the same file with SDL Studio 2017 (which is still installed on the same computer), and I have no problem opening, editing the file and saving it... I really hope you can help me with this one... I'm clueless...

    Thank you Paul. I hope they'll be able to help me and figure out what is happening. I've been using Trados for... ages (since 2002), and this is the first time this happens!

    Hi, I had a remote session with Trados support who was able to provide me with a workaround: The problem occured at the project creation. I had created the project "the old way" (could this be the reason?). The workaround : Open Studio 2021, click on the "Home" tab, drag and drop the file to translate and select either "Create New project" or "Translate as a unique document" (Traduire en tant que document unique). For the moment, Trados no longer crashes or displays the error message. Thank you Paul and Catalin :-)

    I had the same problem in Trados 2021 with a project sent to me by an outsourcer. He created a package in order to solve the issue, but it did not solve it.

    I was able to open and translate the same "corrupted" source file in Trados Studio 2017 without any problem... Sooooo. What use is it to me having a brand new software performing less well than its previous version???
