Trados Studio 2021 crushes

SDL Trados Studio 2021 crushes without any warning! Impossible to work! When will it stop? I'm thinking about getting refund for this program, because it is causing me huge problems and losses as well!
I am very angry, because it is reoccurring for a quite long time now. I have received help from Support, but although it gets a little bit better for a while, however it is not resolved permanently. I never know when Trados will crush and if I will be able to finish a project or if I will have to cancel a project or even suffer from sanctions from unhappy clients.

Has anyone found a permanent and an effective solution to this huge Trados problem? Or now we can see the end of Trados era and we have to think about another alternative program to purchase as soon as possible?

  • I'm sorry to read you're still having problems.  I checked the support database and can see you raised four cases in 2021.  They don't seem to point to one problem though as one was a corrupt file, another a problem logging into Language Cloud, another requiring a .NET update, and one that occurred when you tried to edit  segment but subsequently unable to reproduce with support.

    So when you ask "Has anyone found a permanent and an effective solution to this huge Trados problem?" I'm not sure where this is coming from.  I'm happy to arrange for support to take another look if you have a problem you can show them?

    Otherwise, based on your description, I can only suggest the usual checking antivirus programs, resetting the application, not working on cloud drives (one drive, dropbox etc.).

    I did some of the suggestions yesterday and managed to keep Trados open now – since I have to work on a very huge and urgent project at the moment I'm just working now, while Trados fonctions as the situation with this program is so fragile.

    You are right about previous times when Trados crushed, however I am a regular user, not very smart and, in my opinion, I am not supposed to care about the causes of those crushes, because I don't do anything wrong, just using my PC, its fonctions and applications, and all applications should work properly when properly used. But Trados doesn't. And now it's been a while in that way, so, the question is – will there be anything done finally about it from the side of software developer? Because I had never had such problems with the previous versions of Trados. Yes, there were bugs, strange error messages, but the situation has never been so critical, because it was easy to correct and communicate with the program, since it stayed opened and fonctioning, but now it is dangerous and impossible to plan the work and time and if the corrective solution will work or not, and, as you mentioned, everytime the reason is different without any warning or information how to proceed.
    I am deeply dissappointed in Trados – my best partner during so many years, and now I am seriously looking for another programs to switch to Disappointed

    Regarding the situation this time – I don't have a clue (as usual) what is the problem that makes Trados crush, but the situation description is the following: I am working on .idml files with all settings prepared to work on such files, with attached my own translation memory and a Cloud memory, but after getting to a specific segment, Trados freezes and shuts down. It happened about at least 10 times.
    Solutions that didn't work - memory upgrade, Trados update, PC restart.
    Solution that worked - I translated couple of tens of segments without adding any of translation memories and after that I added translation memories to the Translation Memory and Automated Translation settings in the part of the specific language pair and not to part "All Language Pairs". It works now for a while. Who knows – how long.
