Superfluous xliff files

Hi everyone, there's something that has been bothering me a long time. For some reason, Trados Studio (2017, 2019, 2021) creates several copies of xliff files when saving a project for the first time. These appear in Windows Explorer with the same name as the xliff file + a 6 figure number. It takes up a considerable amount of disc space. A couple of weeks ago, I manually removed these superfluous files from my hard disc for 1 client and 1 year. It took me about 4 hours of work and I gained 17 GB of disc space...  It doesn't really hinder my work but if there is a way to avoid this (or an automated way to delete them), I would like to know about it... Thanks very much.

One example (I've removed the file name for privacy reasons):

Screenshot of Windows Explorer showing multiple SDL XLIFF documents with similar names followed by a 6-figure number, indicating duplicated files created by Trados Studio.

  • I don't now why only Trados Studio is affected but I would be surprised if this the problem here. However... stranger things have happened!  The only thing I can think that "might" be misbehaving due to some other conflict on your machine would be the AuutoSave.  Try turning it off:

Trados Studio Options menu with AutoSave feature enabled, set to save every 10 minutes.

Otherwise I'd look at this sort of thing and see if you can exclude the folders you use for your projects:

I also don't know if this is exactly your problem... just guessing.  But I think it's worth looking at any software you are running that could be the cause of backups being created.  OneDrive is also known to do this sort of thing, but I read it adds the computer name to the end and not a random number as you have.  So perhaps it has something to do with that?
