Autosuggest triggers Ctrl+Shift keys

I've been using Trados for a number of years (currently version 2019) and I very frequently have a problem with autosuggest, in that as the contents of the autosuggest window are being populated while I type, the Ctrl+Shift keys are engaged and so anything I type gets Ctrl+Shift added to it.

This means that if I type words with a D the Ctrl+Shift+D combination is triggered and all the text after the cursor is deleted. An E becomes Ctrl+Shift+E so a € symbol. An O slows down everything as Ctrl+Shift+O triggers the Open dialog. I becomes Italic or Tab, U becomes Underline tag and so on.

I've disabled many key combinations to avoid the problem as much as I can, but many remain and it can really slow things down as I have to Undo two or three steps all the time. It takes 2-3 times as long to finish a segment - very frustrating.

Does this happen only to me? I can't find anything on the web or here in the Trados website on this.

  • Never seen such problem or heard of it, too. My first thought would be resetting all possible settings, one by one, restarting Studio each time and trying to reproduce the problem.

Here are the steps I would take:

    • Reset window layout (from the view menu)
    • Reset user profile (File -> Setup -> Manage user profiles)
    • Rename the projects.xml in Documents\Studio 2019\Projects (if that does not help, rename back)
    • Reset Studio using the description here: https://gateway.rws.com/csm?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0039395
    • Repairing Studio installation via control panel
    • Removing Studio completely with help of the Fresh Start app from the appstore
    • Reinstalling Studio with the latest available installer by right click and choosing "run as admin"
