Problems with exporting the F8 QA check

In my version of Studio (Trados Studio 2021 SR2 - 16.2.9.9198), the F8 check export process seems to require the following:

  1. You MUST run the F8 Check as a batch process. You cannot export an F8 Check you did in the Editor window (does not show up in Reports)
  2. When you export the F8 Check, it runs the whole check again, even though you just ran the Check as a batch process

Can anyone confirm this behaviour?

The F8 Check takes long enough to run anyway and having to run it twice more to get a report exported just makes things worse and takes three times as long.

Maybe I have a misconfiguration somewhere?

Thx,

Ed

  • Are you referring to the Verify Report?

Please confirm if I understand you correctly. In my case I have 2 segments that should have QA.
Segment 1 has missing period mark and segment 2 has additional / ghost tag.

Trados Studio interface showing two translation segments with formatting tags applied, one in English and its corresponding translation in German.
I then go to Batch - Verify options to generate a verification report.
The result of which includes my 3 errors related to the problematic segments and a report that I can now save.

Trados Studio Verify Files dialog box displaying 2 errors and 1 information message about removed and added formatting tags, and a ghost tag in a translation segment.

Quoting yourself, you felt that when you export the F8 Check, it runs the whole check again, even though you just ran the Check as a batch process
And this does not align with my findings.

While it must has run a verification in the background (given I had not run F8 at segment or file level prior to the report request) - as a user I certainly was not aware of it.
What where your steps so I can review in more detail

  • Hi ,

Many thanks for replying so quickly to my issue.

Yes, my findings are exactly as said. I do not normally run the Verify from the Batch command but using F8 from the Editor. So, yes, I could switch to doing that to avoid having to generate the report twice. It is not as convenient, however.

    And yes, as you say,

While it must has run a verification in the background

-- that's exactly the problem. My current project generates thousands of errors. This is obviously not going to be finished in a matter of seconds but takes well over 5 (nearly 10) minutes to complete.

That is why I am wondering why Trados needs to generate the report again when it is literally being displayed in the Reports window. Should it not just save the Verify report as it is?

If you need more information I think a screen capture would be the best way to show what happens and I'll see if I can do one for you.

    Thanks,

    Ed

  • I see - so your request is to have an export message option (to generate a report) directly from this box here

And the benefit it would offer is a smoother batch process if you are working with large projects/files

  • Hi ,

Yes, that's it. If I am in the Editor (using F8 to run Verify) or I am running the Batch Verify command, I should have the option to save the report immediately this has been completed.

    and

I should not have to wait while Trados runs the report again before saving it. That is the main problem. It runs this report generation in the background and there is no way to check progress or to cancel it.

If I might add another point: the Excel report generation takes way longer than the HTML report generation. This is another issue, but I thought I would mention it. Yesterday, Trados was unable to save the report in Excel (system hung/crashed). It was only possible to save it in HTML.

    Thx,

    Ed
