I am trying to force Trados not change the encoding from so-8859-1 to Windows-1252 in the exported target files. I do not seem to find a place where this can be defined.
I am using a file type which is based on XML v 1.3.0.0.
I can change the encoding for each file separately, but thats not really a smart option if you have many files per langauge.
Any suggestions are more than welcome.

How do you communicate the file encoding to Trados? Is it in the declaration? If there is no explicit statement of some sort, Trados will use some service to guess the encoding, and I imagine it will then export the files in the encoding it guessed the source files to have.

Thank you very much, I think this is exactly what I need! I am just unable to find where I can set this for all the files at once (have some 900 of them). Can I somehow get it into the file type definition?

AFAIK the only way to do this is within the file. I use PowerGrep for this, but a simple operation like that would be possible with RegexBuddy already. Might even work with Notepad++.
Main thing is that you insert the encoding info in the declaration (first line of each file): <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
(Different encoding in your case, of course.)
