Trados Studio 2017 - Merged files with comments in editor gives: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

To recreate issue:

1-Open multiple files in editor

2-Insert a comment

3-Save

4-Get "Object reference not set to an instance of an object. "

The work around is to delete the comments but seriously, this is a bug in my opinion.

Others have reported the case: https://community.rws.com/product-groups/trados-portfolio/trados-studio/f/studio/28204/cannot-save-multiple-files-in-editor-studio-2017-cu18/90382#90382

Any way to save AND keep the comments?

  • This doesn't happen with the current supported versions of the software.  We won't make any fixes to older and non-supported versions of the software.  So... one possible solution is to take advantage of the paid service Kelly offered as he has developed a plugin to help resolve this problem.  BUT... given you can delete the comments in one click out of the box:

Trados Studio Comments tab showing a red exclamation mark indicating a severity issue, with options to delete comments and a list of comments with document names and segment scope.

And you can also export your comments using the Comments View plugin for 2017 on the appstore:

Export Form window from Trados Studio's Comment View Plugin with options to select columns for export and an arrow pointing towards the Export button.

You might prefer to try the free solutions first.
