Hello!
I am working on a big file (over 11.900 segments), of which 60% is already translated though. Every time I save a translated segment it takes at least 30 seconds to save the segment and pass to the next. I tried to disable auto-propagation, but the problem persists.
Is this normal, due to the big file, or is there something I can do to return to normal processing times?

Trados Studio doesn't perform well with large files. If you have no problem with smaller ones you could split the file into bitesized chunks. One very easy way to handle it is use studioViews as you can work with smaller files and then import them into your main file to update it without losing the context (match values, TM source etc.).

I thought myself that splitting the file would have been the best solution, but since it is a quite complex file, with many tables and, most of all, with a Table of Contents, I am frightened that after processing the file with Trados I may have to review the automated numbering of chapters and sections... which is something I cannot do in Word.
But now I will study the two links you gave me (I have no Language Tool on, so that did not apply, in fact).
I will let you know if something works.

Ok I tried, but this is too complicated. I downloaded the StudioView app and installed it, but there is no way to see it anywhere in Studio.
I read the instructions, but I do not find the buttons described.
However, it's holiday time now and I do not want to bother you with more work, I will slowly continue processing the big file with the time required, the deadline for delivery is not too tight fortunately.
Sorry and thank you anyway, and all of you enjoy some spare time!

I am not an employee, I'm a freelancer and I'm working all weekend so, while you're waiting for further help on this, I have three things that I do if Studio is slow or crashes with a big/old/slow file:
1) Go to File > Options > Editor > Automation then UNtick 'Enable LookAhead' under 'Translation Memory' and UNtick 'Enable verification of segment' under 'After Confirming Segments Manually'
Both these options should help speed things up. You can then verify the file after you've finished working on it all in one go via the Review tab > Verify or by clicking F8.
Then, in the Project Settings (or via File>Options if you create your own projects or work via Translate Single File), turn OFF upLift Match Repair:
Turning this setting off seems to help with files that for some reason cause Studio to crash. I am sure it helps with speed too.
If you want to know what any setting means under File > Options or under Project Settings, click the Help button bottom right of the settings window:
All of these settings are very useful if you have a hi-spec fast computer and an excellent broadband connection, but in less than perfect scenarios, it can help to turn one or all of them off.

Wow Alison, excellent suggestions! It all worked and the problem is SOLVED!!
Then do I have to reactivate all those functions after I finish working on this ver big file, or can I just leave them as they are now?

The only reason to turn those functions back on again, is if you use them normally.
