Another time-destroying bug in the QA process within Trados Studio

In my quest to streamline the QA process ("F8") in Trados Studio, I've discovered another pretty dreadful bug in the QA process. This turns up if your project manager (at your client or agency) has set up automatic QA checks when you prepare the return package.

Complete these steps to reproduce the bug:

  1. Import a project containing multiple files, let's say 30 files
  2. Complete 2 of these files as a part-delivery for your customer
  3. Now run F8 while still in the Editor. This completes quickly and shows you the results. Good.
  4. Now prepare the 2 files (of 30) as a return package. Click the two files to select them from the Files view, then right-click and select "Create return package"
  5. A prompt appears, stating that the Verify (F8/QA) process will now run
  6. Trados Studio now runs the QA check ... ON ALL 30 FILES.

After it has completed, you can then carry on with the last steps to save your return package.

Needless to say, the fact that Studio runs a Verify on all of the files when you haven't even touched 28 of them is, let's say, a bit non-intuitive.

Is this perhaps fixed in Trados Studio 2022? I'm using the latest version of 2021.

Thx,

Ed

  • Hi ,

Thanks for mentioning this to RWS. I would even go a bit further:

I understand the intention behind this "last-minute-check", i.e. to force users to do the check. But to be honest, it is, as you write, a time-waster because it is not possible to correct any errors at the package-creation stage. Instead, we need to go back to the editor and correct them there and then restart package creation.

    My procedure is as follows:

    1. Before creating my return package, I press F8 while still in the editor and correct any errors reported there.

    2. I then create my return package, but press "Continue" as soon as the Verify process begins. This gives me a warning, but I ignore it and instead inform the client upon delivery that I ran the QA check and that all remaining error messages can be safely ignored.

I know that this is not the way it's meant to be because some clients might expect the Verify report to be OK, but I think software should help the user and not be a time waster or an end it itself.

    Best regards

    Annette (from Manfred's account)

  • When Studio starts this unuseful QA simply press cancel or next (sorry, I can't remember now what appears there). You will get a warning, which can be confirmed and you go to creation of return package with no loss of time.
