Studio project package with clean files

Hi! Could you please help me since it is the first time I use Trados.

The client asked me to create a project using the original Word files they sent me. After I have translated them I should create a package containing bilingual files, clean files and project TM. I would like to ask the following:

1) Is it possible to create a Return Package if I create an initial package myself as asked by the client (Return Package button is grey and inactive)?

2) I have managed to add the TM to the package but I cannot add clean files as asked by the client. How can I add clean files to the Trados package?

Thanks a lot in advance.

  • I think you should first of all ask your client what they mean by a project package, if they specifically asked you for this and it's not just you assuming this is what they need?

If they want a project package then you will need the Professional version of Trados Studio to be able to create one.  You would not create a return package because you created the project, so you would just be creating a package that you send.

After I have translated them I should create a package containing bilingual files, clean files and project TM.

First of all if you send the bilingual files then a project TM isn't needed at all.  However, if your client isn't aware of this then I would do this:

    1. create a folder for the files
    2. copy your translated bilingual files into that folder
    3. copy the clean files into that folder
    4. create a TM from your bilingual files, and I would suggest export to TMX. Then put the TMX in the folder
    5. Finally zip it all up and send to your client

That would be a "package", just not a Trados Studio Package.  Based on the clients requirement I doubt they want a Trados Studio package... or they just don't know what they're doing.

  • One more thing while I remember... you talk about "clean files".  This is a very old term and normally refers to Word files that were previously bilingual Word files as created by the very old Trados or Wordfast Classic.  If you have to provide "clean files" it may be worth checking if the bilingual files they really want are the old bilingual doc files and not sdlxliff files which is what you'll get from Trados Studio.
