Import Word file in Trados 2021, without the protected pages

Hello,

I have received from a client several word files which contain pages that are restricted from editing, and pages that are available for editing (translation).

Is there a way to import in Trados the word files by excluding the restricted text and by including only the text that is available for editing?

As a test, I imported the files and edited the restricted parts, just to see whether or not the restricted text gets modified when I save the target files, and, unfortunately, the restricted text gets modified as well.

Thank you in advance for your help and suggestions.

  • Hi Kelly,

Sure. This is a test file similar to the documents received from the client.

  • as you can see

Trados Studio " Knows " it from top to toe.

The two arrows (two tags) mean "Permisson to edit" Starts and "Permisson to edit" Ends

Screenshot of Trados Studio interface showing a text document with 'Permission to edit' tags indicated by two yellow arrows pointing to 'permStart' and 'permEnd' tags within the text.

So, when The company deny or fail to give you nice solution.
    I will test it.
    Not now.

    My idea is quite simple.

Lock segments until it reach "Permission to edit Start" tag
Then stop Lock segment until it reach "Permission to edit End" tag
and do it again and again
    -of course, automatiKelly

    Too Easy, right ?

  • yep

I have finished testing, like I said.

I have showed you the way you could handle with yourself, already.

Now, I'm showing you the OneClickWay, all you have to do is click once.

Screenshot of Trados Studio interface with a document open in the Editor view. Red arrows point to 'NotPermLock', 'permEdit', 'permStart', and 'permEnd' tags in the text.

Of course, it is a Paid service.

    Regards
